Loggerheads Country Park
Autumn is a beautiful time of year to explore Loggerheads, the vivid Autumn colours come alive during this season against the stunning backdrop of the limestone cliffs and river Alyn valley. There a many self-guided walks available, suitable for a range of abilities ranging from easy strolls along a flat path that hugs the river valley to more challenging climbs to the viewpoint. There is also a visitor centre, café and pub just over the road (We Three Loggerheads). So, whether you fancy re-charging after your walk with a coffee and a cake, lunch or an evening meal – all options are catered for.

Theatr Clwyd - Theatre Breaks
Have you considered making your stay at The Old Mill Holiday Cottages a Theatre break? Theatr Clwyd is our wonderful local theatre, in the town of Mold (Just 6-miles away) which has benefitted from multi-million-pound investment and was reopened in Spring of this year (2026). It also features Bryn Williams celebrity restaurant, with stunning views of the Vale of Clwyd.
A diverse lineup of dance, theatre, comedy and community events are available.

The Bluebell Inn, Weekly Walks
Weekly guided group walks by local volunteers. Do you fancy getting out walking in the local countryside? This is a lovely sociable opportunity to walk with locals and get to know the beautiful local area and hidden gems.
The walk tends to be approx. 3+ miles (Circa 90 minutes) and is split into 3 groups, slower, intermediate and fast.

Gwrych Castle
October Events and Halloween Experience
Event Dates - Daily from 25th October to 5th November
The Haunted Castle and Spooktacular Funfair. Featuring a daytime pumpkin trail, I’m a celebrity themed scavenger hunt, plus, fairground rides and activities. Evening entertainment from 5pm – 9pm (Age 12+) featuring live theatrical costumed characters at dusk, ready to make you jump! with atmospheric lighting across the ruins. Are you brave enough to explore the Castle this Halloween?

Hawarden Farm
The Pumpkin Patch is open and ready for picking from 9th October onwards.
October 25th – A large Autumn Celebration at the Farm Shop featuring apple crafts, apple bobbing, s’mores by the campfire and live music. The Grade 1listed Hawarden Old Castle grounds will also be open to explore from 2pm onwards. Free admission, but registration for a ticket is required.

Halloween at Chester Zoo
Dates: October 18th – November 2nd
The zoo completely transforms in Autumn. The event features giant pumpkin sculptures telling the folklore of different species, campfire storing telling with zoo rangers, marshmellow toasting and specialized trails. Free entry with the standard zoo admission.
