Aspects of the hamlet of Melin-y-Wern
are a visual treat. Immediately adjacent to The Old
Mill is Wern Mill, the reason why the hamlet exists.
Built in 1805 on the site of a wooden
mill, Wern Mill is now a private house. The success
of the mill spawned many new buildings, most of which
still exist today having been preserved and put into
alternative uses.
Wern Mill, The reason why our
hamlet of Melin-y-Wern exists.
Now a private house.
One
five storey stone warehouse was turned into a house
in the 1970s. This is now Susan and Neil's home.
The stables were
used for many purposes after the closure of the Water
Mill in the 1920s.This included being used as a sugar
store during the war. More recently in the 1970s as the
'Craft o Hans' Craft Centre until 1986, eventually becoming
The Old Mill Guest Accommodation in 1988.
The adjacent
miller's house was eventually extended and became the
highly successful 'Cherry Pie Inn and Restaurant'
The Old Mill Guest Accommodation and the
Cherry Pie Inn and Restaurant work very closely together
and we are delighted to recommend them to our guests. Visit The Cherry Pie at www.thecherrypieinn.co.uk
Another stone built warehouse eventually
became Farrier's Cottage, now a private house.

with Farrier's Cottage (a private house) on the left.
The Clwydian Hills Area
of Outstanding Natural Beauty whithin which the hamlet lies
provides wonderful views and excellent
walking including the Offa's Dyke long distance footpath.
Local to The Old Mill, there are many
delightful walks. In each bedroom we provide laminated
written details of a few of these together with a map.
