We advise that guests or visitors with mobility difficulties telephone us on 01352 741542 in advance of arrival. This to ensure that there is somebody available to offer assistance if required.

Power points are generally set at 40 cm from the floor with each bedroom have one set at 104cm from the floor. Light switches are 126cm from the floor and are of the rocker type. All rooms are carpeted. All doors have fire door closing springs but none are excessively difficult to open. All door handles are painted black and there is good colour contrast with the pine stained doors. All door apertures are 69cm with the exception of the front door as below. Guest room numbers are painted black and are raised from the surface.
All bedrooms are equipped with bedside telephones which can be used to summon assistance by dialling ‘0’ the system can be programmed such that assistance can be called by simply raising the handset. Calls can be made between bedrooms at no charge.

Bus
The Old Mill is in the country and most guests arrive by car. However limited public transport is available with a bus stop (both directions) located 200 metres from The Old Mill. Bus timetables are available from
http://www.polestar-group.com/fcc/bus/tt/14.PDF
and timetable and access information is available from the FLINTSHIRE BUSLINE on 01352 704035. (Mondays to Fridays 0830 - 1700, Saturday 0830 - 1400)
The Bus Stop is not marked on the timetables but is known as ‘by The Cherry Pie Inn’ and is situated between the Lixwm and Caerwys stops. The timetable indicates that most buses are ‘Easy Access’. The frequency of the buses is one every one or two hours in each direction ( Towards Mold or towards Denbigh) dependant on the time of day.
Train
The nearest station is FLINT. There are taxi services available from Flint and bus services although it is necessary to change buses at Mold. We can advise more detail if required.
Car Park and approach to the Building
Our car park is quite large for the six bedrooms that we have. It is surfaced in loose gravel. There are no marked bays for disabled parking. However there are normally no more than six cars on this car park.
See photo at http://www.old-mill.co.uk/car_park_big.htm
Four steps ( Drop 15cm, Depth 30cm, width 180cm) lead from the car park towards the Reception and guest room entrances. The steps are close illuminated until 11.00 at night but receive illumination from an automatically operated floodlight during darkness. There is no hand rail at these steps. A loose gravelled gentle slope provides an alternative. Vehicles may descend this slope to give close access to the Reception entrance.
From the steps there is a 240cm wide slab path to the Reception entrance.
There is an alternate vehicle entrance at a lower level which enables passengers to be dropped off 8 metres from the Reception entrance with level access along a 120 cm wide slab path.
Main Entrance and Reception
The Reception area is more of a meeting area than a traditional Reception.
There is one step up into the building (15cm drop). A portable ramp is available but is not normally left in place unless we are aware of its use being required. There are no grab rails at this entrance. The entrance door is two leaves with a maximum opening of 102 cm when both leaves are open.
There is an ‘old fashioned’ bell pull by the right hand side of the Reception entrance which needs to be pulled down. The pull ring is 113 cm from the floor and 4 cm from the wall.
The main reception desk is low at 70cm height.
Guests ‘check in’ in their guestrooms using a form left on the bed. Neil or Susan can assist in form completion if required.
The call bell in the Reception area is a push button on the wall 130 cm from the floor and above a desk.
There is a unisex toilet off the Reception area. This is not an accessible toilet.
There are no phones or payphone available but guests can use telephones in their rooms or Neil and Susan’s cordless phones in the Reception area.
Other Public Areas
The dining room is accessed via a one leaf door from the Reception area. At breakfast cereals, fruit juices and fruit is ‘self service’ from a breakfast bar. We will serve guests from this bar to their table if they wish us to do so. The main cooked breakfast is served to guests’ tables.
The Lounge is accessed via a one leaf door from the Reception area. The seating is soft sofa type with the seat squabs 46cm from the floor. There is space for one wheelchair in this room.
